Hakan has extensive experience at all levels of competitive swimming. As a swimmer, he has been a national champion and record holder swimmer from 1977-1997, participated in the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games and was a European Finalist and Balkan Champion in 1986-1989.

- Head Coach of Middle and Distance Swimmers & Age 13 Boys and Girls at Galatasaray Sporting Club Istanbul – Turkey’s top club program
- International Relations, Assistant and Technical Advisor of Technical Director of Turkish Swimming
- Coordinator of International events and responsible for Tokyo 2020 Project and High Performance Swimmers
- Technical Swimming Committee Member of Turkish Swimming Federation.
Hakan has coached swimmers who have:
- Competed at the 2008 Beijing, 2012 London, 2016 Rio & 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games
- Won the European Junior Championships and set meet records – 2009, 2010, 2020
- Won and Medaled at US Junior Nationals – 2005, 2009, 2010
