Congratulations to Badger Swim Club for another dominating performance at Senior Metropolitan Championships. Badger won both the Men’s Title and the Combined Team Title. The women placed second by 12 points to the Long Island Aquatic Club. Badger scored a team high of 1595.5 points. Complete scores can be found here:

The women were led by Maria Oceguera. She won the High Point scoring award for the women: http://metroswimming.org/whp.htm. Maria qualified for USA Junior National Championships with a 2:17.39 in her 2nd place finish in the 200 FLY. She also placed 2nd in the 1500 FR, and she placed 3rd in the 200FR, 400FR, and 800FR. Lindsay Vrooman won the 200FR and 400FR. Anina Lund won the 800FR and placed 2nd in the 200FR and 400FR. Anina and Lindsay both broke a 22 year old record in the 400FR. Badger World Champion Tobie Smith’s 400FR record of 4:18.32 fell this weekend to Anina’s 4:18.03 and Lindsay’s 4:13.31.

Badger women also placed first in the 400 Medley Relay and the 800 FR relay. The 800FR relay of Melissa Fulenwider, Caroline Poleway, Maria Oceguera and Lindsay Vrooman broke an 18 year old record with a time of 8:30.78.

Brett Hogan won the 800 FR on Thursday to start the meet. He was followed by Spencer Lafata, Jack Collins and Matt Lantin who placed 2nd through 4th respectively. Patrick Conaton won the 200 backstroke and placed 2nd in the 100 backstroke. Patrick is swimming at USA National Championship on the way to the Youth Olympic Games this summer. Ryan Feeley won the 200FR and 400FR. Cody Miller, who won the 200IM with a time of 2:05.80, breaking a Badger record set by Alex Gianino set in 2012. Cody also won and broke the record in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:02.45. James Wells broke the record in the 100 backstroke with a time of 56.39. James also broke the record in the 100 butterfly with a time of 55.49. Charles Barry, Badger’s highest point scorer, won the 200 butterfly and 400IM.

The meet ended with Badger men placing 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th in the 1500 FR. Spencer Lafata led the way with Jack Collins in second. Brian Hogan 3rd, and Matt
Lantin 5th. Badger won the men’s 400 FR relay, placed 1st and 2nd in the 800 FR relay and James, Cody, Ryan and Oliver broke a five year old Badger record in the 400 Medley Relay with a time of 3:48.74.

Congratulations to new USA Junior National Qualifiers Jack Collins in the 1500FR, Maria Oceguera in the 200FLY, and Oliver Patrouch in the 50FR. They join the Patrick Conaton, Spencer Lafata, Anina Lund, and Richard Mannix as our 2014 Summer USA Junior National qualifiers.

One week after Junior National Championships, Badger is sending a strong team to USA National Championships. Patrick Conaton, Ryan Feeley, Brian Hogan, Anina Lund, Richard Mannix, Cody Miller, Derek Toomey, Lindsay Vrooman, and James Wells hope to do better than Badger’s 5th place finish in the 2013 short course National Championships.
