Badger Swimmer Spencer LaFata Verbally Commits to Duke University

Congratulations to Spencer LaFata on making a verbal commitment to Duke University!

As SwimSwam Reports:

“Spencer LaFata, a 2016 Olympic Trials qualifier and product of the Badger Swim Club in New York, has verbally committed to the Duke Blue Devils.

Duke historically hasn’t had much success in men’s distance swimming, but they did make a lot of progress last season when then-sophomore Matt Johnson (15:08.84) and then-freshman Riley Hickman (15:09.94) moved into the top two spots of all-time in program history. Before Johnson arrived, the fastest time ever record by a Duke miler was a 15:23 from 2011.

With LaFata’s addition, though, the three fastest milers in program history will all be training together for the 2017-2018 season.”Read more.

Fantastic Mr. Fox is Fox Searchlight, stop motion film based on the legendary story by Roald Dahl. Our favorite character is, of course, non other than Mr. Badger! Mr. Badger is played by the comedic talent, Bill Murray who can be seen in this clip showing his Badger pride!

Take a watch for a few Badger laughs to brighten this dreary Monday!

Patrick Conaton named Stanford University Co-Captain

Accomplished Badger swimmer, Patrick Conaton, is entering his junior year at Stanford University and was recently named co-captain of Stanford University’s Mens Swim Team, which is a tremendous honor for a junior to be named a captain.

Patrick is considered one of Badger’s most recent and current talents. He is an NCAA qualifier in the backstroke events and, most recently, represented Badger at the 2016 Olympic Trials in Omaha.

He is certain to be an integral member of the Stanford team as they kick off their 2016-17 season.

Badger wishes Patrick the best of luck this season!.

Badger’s Cody Miller wins Olympic gold on relay team

AS REPORTED BY THE LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL
Cody Miller finished his 2016 Rio Games as a part of Olympic history.

The Las Vegas resident and Palo Verde High School product won gold swimming the breaststroke leg of the United States’ 4×100 medley relay, in what might have been the final Olympic race of Michael Phelps’ storied career.

Miller, who won bronze in the 100-meter breaststroke earlier in Rio, helped the U.S. set an Olympic record with a time of 3:27.95.

He entered the water second for the Americans after Ryan Murphy began the race with a world-record 51.85 second split in the backstroke. Miller was in second by the time he handed the race to Phelps after a 59.03 split, though, because Adam Peaty of Great Britain swam a world-record 56.59 split in the breaststroke.

Phelps put the U.S. back ahead in the butterfly, and Nathan Adrian closed it out in the freestyle. It’s the first gold medal of Cody Miller’s career, but it was the 23rd for Phelps.
