Emily McClellan

Emily McClellan was born June 21, 1992, to parents June and Thomas McClellan in Delavan, WI. At Delavan-Darien HS, McClellan stayed busy, competing in softball and basketball in addition to swimming.
She earned honorable mention all-state status as a sophomore, and was all-state her junior and senior seasons. As a senior, she won the 100 breaststroke (earning All-American status) and placed third in the 200 IM at the Wisconsin high school championships.

McClellan didn’t travel far for college, as she chose to swim for the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee. She boasted senior national cuts in the 100 and 200 breaststroke before heading to school.College Swimming:McClellan made history her freshman year as the first UWM swimmer and first Horizon League female swimmer to qualify for NCAAs.

Get ready for this: McClellan broke three Horizon League record five times, three school records five different times, three freshman marks five times and two Klotsche Natatorium (home pool of UWM) records four times. She competed in the 100 and 200 breast and 200 IM at NCAAs. She placed 54th in the IM (2:03.14), tied for 35th in the 100 breast (1:01.85), and finished with a time of 2:15.30 in the 200 breast for 48th.

Derek Toomey

Derek Toomey was born November 2, 1991 to parents Kathleen Horner and Thomas Toomey in Madison, Wisconsin. As a senior at Verona Area High school, Toomey was the state runner-up in both the 50 and 100 yard freestyles with times of 20.57 and 45.19, respectively, as well as anchoring Verona’s runner-up 200 yard freestyle relay.

He racked up athletic and academic accolades, earning honors as a (two-time) NISCA All-American as well as Academic All-American. Toomey was all-state and all-conference both junior and senior year, and he set three school records during his time at Verona. Toomey swam club with the Seminole Sharks and Badger Aquatics.

College Swimming:Toomey had an immediate impact on the University of Minnesota’s sprint group and its scoring potential at Big Ten Championships as well as NCAA Championships as a freshman. At the 2011 Big Ten Champs, he placed 9th in the 50 free (19.94) and 11th in the 100 free (43.99) as well as being a member of the runner-up 400 yard freestyle relay and anchoring the Gophers’ 200 free relay (1:16.78) which set a meet record. Toomey then anchored both of these freestyle relays at the 2011 NCAA Champs. The 200 free relay placed 7th

Lindsay Vrooman

Named 2013 Big Ten Swimmer of the Year … finished third in the 1,650 freestyle at the NCAA Championships with a school-record time of 15:50.83 … also took fifth in the 500 free at 4:36.41, the second-fastest time in school history … went 4:36.97 in prelims which ranks fourth on IU’s list … 12th in the 800 freestyle relay in 7:05.32 … also placed 24th in the 200 free (1:46.36) … took home a total of three All-America honors … named 2013 Big Ten Swimmer of the Championships after winning Big Ten titles in the 500 freestyle, 1,650 freestyle and 800 freestyle relay … set a new Big Ten record in the 500 free with a time of 4:35 41 … successfully defended her Big Ten title in the 1,650 free with a Big Ten Meet record time of 15:51.20 … also placed third in the 200 freestyle (1:45.33) … part of the winning 800 free relay that set a new Big Ten record with a time of 6:59.48, becoming the first Big Ten team to ever go under seven minutes in the event … finished third in the 1,650 free at the 2012 USA Swimming Winter Short Course Nationals … also took sixth in the 500 free … won the 500 free in a dual meet win at Purdue … 500 free and 1,650 free winner in a dual meet with Texas and Michigan … Academic All-Big Ten.
