Highlights from Westchester County Championships!

Badger swimmer, Liam Loveless, broke a 14 year old record at Counties on Wednesday night, winning the Boys 12 and Under 50 yard Breaststroke!

Badger swimmer, Lydia Chen, came 2nd in the Girls 10 and Under 50 yard Backstroke.

Badger swimmers, Max Hardart and Tom Lavelle, finished 5th and 6th in the Boys 10 and Under 50 yard Backstroke.

Badger swimmer, Garrett Towne, finished 3rd and Badger swimmer, Jack Loveless, placed 6th in the Boys 14 and Under 100 Butterfly.

Badger swimmer, David Stewart won the Boys 17 and Under 100 yard Freestyle and was just a 10th of a second off the 32 year old record.

Badger swimmer, Sarah Hodes won the 17 and Under 100 fly.

Badger swimmer, Natalie Eid won high point, 2nd in the fly and the i.m., 3rd in the free and 4th in the backstroke.

Badger swimmer, Will Powers came in 8th in the butterfly.

Peter Whittington takes 2nd Place in 10 and Under Boys Individual High Point at Metro Long Course Junior Olympics!

Congratulations to all of our Badger swimmers who participated in the Metro Long Course Junior Olympics last weekend. Peter Whittington won the 10 and Under Boys 400 free, set a record in the 10 and Under Boys 100 fly (which was broken a few minutes later!), finished top 3 in a variety of individual events and took 2nd place in the 10 and Under Boys Individual High Point!

These five swimmers will be joining the rest of the Badger National Team in California next week for USA Swimming’s National and Junior National Championships.

Congratulations to Badger Swim Club for another dominating performance at Senior Metropolitan Championships.

Congratulations to Badger Swim Club for another dominating performance at Senior Metropolitan Championships. Badger won both the Men’s Title and the Combined Team Title. The women placed second by 12 points to the Long Island Aquatic Club. Badger scored a team high of 1595.5 points. Complete scores can be found here:

The women were led by Maria Oceguera. She won the High Point scoring award for the women: http://metroswimming.org/whp.htm. Maria qualified for USA Junior National Championships with a 2:17.39 in her 2nd place finish in the 200 FLY. She also placed 2nd in the 1500 FR, and she placed 3rd in the 200FR, 400FR, and 800FR. Lindsay Vrooman won the 200FR and 400FR. Anina Lund won the 800FR and placed 2nd in the 200FR and 400FR. Anina and Lindsay both broke a 22 year old record in the 400FR. Badger World Champion Tobie Smith’s 400FR record of 4:18.32 fell this weekend to Anina’s 4:18.03 and Lindsay’s 4:13.31.

Badger women also placed first in the 400 Medley Relay and the 800 FR relay. The 800FR relay of Melissa Fulenwider, Caroline Poleway, Maria Oceguera and Lindsay Vrooman broke an 18 year old record with a time of 8:30.78.

Brett Hogan won the 800 FR on Thursday to start the meet. He was followed by Spencer Lafata, Jack Collins and Matt Lantin who placed 2nd through 4th respectively. Patrick Conaton won the 200 backstroke and placed 2nd in the 100 backstroke. Patrick is swimming at USA National Championship on the way to the Youth Olympic Games this summer. Ryan Feeley won the 200FR and 400FR. Cody Miller, who won the 200IM with a time of 2:05.80, breaking a Badger record set by Alex Gianino set in 2012. Cody also won and broke the record in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:02.45. James Wells broke the record in the 100 backstroke with a time of 56.39. James also broke the record in the 100 butterfly with a time of 55.49. Charles Barry, Badger’s highest point scorer, won the 200 butterfly and 400IM.

The meet ended with Badger men placing 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th in the 1500 FR. Spencer Lafata led the way with Jack Collins in second. Brian Hogan 3rd, and Matt
Lantin 5th. Badger won the men’s 400 FR relay, placed 1st and 2nd in the 800 FR relay and James, Cody, Ryan and Oliver broke a five year old Badger record in the 400 Medley Relay with a time of 3:48.74.

Congratulations to new USA Junior National Qualifiers Jack Collins in the 1500FR, Maria Oceguera in the 200FLY, and Oliver Patrouch in the 50FR. They join the Patrick Conaton, Spencer Lafata, Anina Lund, and Richard Mannix as our 2014 Summer USA Junior National qualifiers.

One week after Junior National Championships, Badger is sending a strong team to USA National Championships. Patrick Conaton, Ryan Feeley, Brian Hogan, Anina Lund, Richard Mannix, Cody Miller, Derek Toomey, Lindsay Vrooman, and James Wells hope to do better than Badger’s 5th place finish in the 2013 short course National Championships.

Badger Swimmers help raise over $1 million for cancer

On Saturday morning over 650 swimmers gathered at Larchmont Yacht Club to participate in Swim Across America’s annual Long Island Sound open water swim, raising over $1 million for cancer.

Among those swimmers was Badger Senior Team member Tim Buttigieg who elected to swim the 5k, raised an astonishing $15,825 and was a Top SAA Fundraiser. 2014 Summer USA Junior National Qualifier Rich Mannix swam the 2k and was the 1st “miler” to reach the beach at Larchmont Shore Club. James Simone of the Badger Senior Team also swam the 2k.

The Badger Junior Team was led by Finn Seibold who was also a Top SAA Fundraiser joined by fellow team mates Jackie Coquillette, Martine Fierro and Coach Kip Fierro in the 2k swim.

Lindsay Vrooman Lights Up Quebec Canada Cup with Seven Medals

Swimming World Magazine Reports:

QUEBEC, Canada, June 29. BADGER’s Lindsay Vrooman, and York Y’s Meghan Small and Courtney Harnish had some special weekends at the Quebec Canada Cup.

Vrooman won a total of seven medals, with four golds, two silvers and a bronze. She captured victory in the 200-meter free (2:00.17) 400-meter free (4:12.38), 800-meter free (8:37.45) and the 1500-meter free (16:30.74). She also placed third in the 200-meter fly with a 2:17.74.

Badger also placed second in the women’s 800-meter free relay with an 8:23.78 by way of a 2:01.90 anchor from Vrooman. She also anchored the women’s 400-meter free relay to a 3:55.15 with a 57.03 for second as well. That’s a pretty solid meet for the 22-year-old Hoosier.

Badger Swimmer Lindsay Vrooman had another great day at the Canada Cup

Lindsay Vrooman of the Badger Swim Club had another great day at the Canada Cup in Montreal collecting a gold in the women’s 200 freestyle and a silver in the women’s 4 x 100 freestyle relay. Vrooman tops the list of multiple medalists at the meet having won three gold, two silver and one bronze heading into the final day of competition.

On day one she took the 800 freestyle, followed that up on day two by winning the 400 freestyle and on the third evening took gold in the women’s 200 freestyle posting a time of 2:00.17. Vrooman finished just ahead of Katerine Savard who touched in a time of 2:00.33, the two were never separated by more than 25 one-hundredths of a second.
